Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress and former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development has revealed that late President John Evans Atta Mills at a point resolved to resign as President of Ghana.
According to him, the late President was infuriated by comments made about him by former President Jerry John Rawlings in Tamale.
He disclosed that Mills had already taken a decision to resign, but was prevailed upon to rescind his decision.
Speaking on Citi TV’s Footprints hosted by Samuel Atta Mensah, the NDC stalwart said “There was one particular incident which nearly caused President Mills nearly to resign. In fact he resigned. The only thing that saved this country was that he called to tell me that he was resigning.”
He narrated further that “I was at an IEA conference in Aburi when he called to ask me; have you heard what Jerry has gone to say about me in Tamale? I said no I haven’t heard and he said get the audio and listen to it because I have resigned and I don’t want anybody to try to stop me.”
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi indicated that it took his intervention to stop the resignation of President Mills.
The former Local Government Minister has been speaking about his working relationship with former President Jerry John Rawlings and has confirmed widespread reports about a sour relationship between late President Mills and wife of Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konady Agyemang Rawlings.
