The District Chief Executive for Bongo Peter Ayinbisa has threatened to close down a community radio station operating in the district.
According to him, contrary to the purpose for establishing the radio station, the Bongo community radio has in recent times been used as a platform to incite violence and foment trouble in the district.
Speaking on the Dreamz Breakfast News on Monday, Mr. Ayinbisa cited a radio program of the National Democratic Congress hosted by one Paulina Adabre which he said almost sparked political violence in the area.
“I must say that the way the Bongo community radio is being used recently to incite people and foment trouble that is not the way to go. We know radio is supposed to entertain, educate and inform the public but what is happening is not the case and we are considering actions and that does not exclude closing down the radio station,” he said.
Mr. Ayinbisa who was the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate narrated that leading members of the NDC in the constituency including a former District Chief Executive were panelists on a radio program where they claimed “Bongo is on fire”.
“I have reported the conduct of the host to the GJA, I have spoken to the NMC and we will take necessary actions,” he added.
It has emerged that there was a near clash between some youth of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party in the constituency on Friday following the declaration of the 2020 election results.
Simon Alangde, a former Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency in an interview disclosed that he was attacked by some youth of the NPP on Thursday night, which resulted in the smashing of the windscreen of his car.
“I was returning home when some known youth of the NPP led by the NADMO coordinator blocked the road and started accusing me. I remained seated in my car and they were banging my pickup and smashed my windscreen,” he said.
Though the incident was reported to the police, reports say some youth of the NDC embarked on a manhunt for persons who reportedly attacked the former MP.
Meanwhile, the persons who were named for their alleged involvement in the attacks were invited by the police and their statements taken.
