Some youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Chiana-Paga Constituency have taken to the streets to mark what they refer to as their party’s ‘victory’ at the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.
The youth who marched on the streets of Paga through to the Ghana – Burkina Faso border sang and chanted in a jubilant mood while expressing their dissatisfaction with the outcome of the presidential elections as declared by EC chairperson, Jane Mensah on 9th December.
Convener of the Friday afternoon march dubbed Save Ghana Victory walk, Hajj Seidu Sulemana said “We are celebrating the victory of John Dramani Mahama. We know John Mahama has won this election. No amount of intimidation can stop us from jubilating the victory we have chalked. The EC cannot turn this election in favor of the NPP. We want them to know, especially the EC, the Peace council, they should all know the NDC cannot be intimidated and we want it to be heard everywhere that even here in Chiana – Paga, we have not relaxed, we are jubilating. Let’s celebrate the victory of the NDC”.
According to Mr Sulemana, the Jean Mensah led electoral commission has showed by its actions that it has been compromised by the governing party NPP to help them win the elections.
“We know Jean Mensah is the puppet of Akuffo Addo. So she cannot come and impose on us a leader we do not recognize as a President. John Maham is the legitimately elected President,” he stated.
Unlike other protests across the country, the Chiana – Paga march was relatively peaceful.
They displayed placards with inscriptions such as “No John Mahama, No peace”, EC stool the election for NPP”, “John Mahama is President elect” among others.
A protester, Sulemana Akoyiri alleged that they “know very well that the results have been manipulated and we not going to allow it. We want every vote to be counted. The electoral commissioner alone cannot steal the mandate of Ghanaians”.
The youth ended the “Save Ghana Victory walk” at the Paga lorry station where they danced to campaign songs of the NDC amid flying firecrackers.
