General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has touted the competence of the NPP in the management of its internal affairs.
Speaking to the media after the NPP’s presidential candidate was declared winner of the election, Mr. Boadu said the party is not only competent in steering the affairs of the country but also handling its internal matters.
According to him, the NPP demonstrated competence in building effective Collation Centers that enabled them to accurately collate the outcome of the General Elections and assured their members of victory even before the Electoral Commission could complete collation of the officials results.
“All the things that we said about what the party has done, about the percentages we’ve had are the same percentages as the results declared by the EC. So we are not only competent in government, we are also competent in running this party. We have some youthful persons at the party’s headquarters as a second layer (to our collation center). If what is done at the center is destroyed, we still have another one at the headquarters to complement,” he said.
The ruling party in the wee hours of Tuesday, December 8, 2020 held a press conference debunking claims of victory by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC had claimed that it won majority of seats in parliament. The supposed victory in the Parliamentary election, according to the NDC, was an indication of its victory in the presidential election.
But the NPP, at a counter press conference which was addressed by John Boadu, dismissed the NDC’s claim stating that while the opposition party had snatched some of its seats, it had also snatched a number of seats from the NDC hence, it is untrue that the opposition party would perform the majority aside of parliament in the 8th parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Mr. Boadu also claimed at the press conference that the NPP’s presidential candidate was leading the NDC’s presidential candidate by 52 percent.
The Returning Officer of the presidential election has since announced the NPP’s presidential candidate as winner of the 2020 presidential election.
President Akufo-Addo, per officials results, polled 6,730,587 representing 51.30 percent of the total valid votes cast to beat his main contender, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC who polled 6,213,182 representing 47.359 percent.
