Certified results from the Upper East Region indicate that presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama’s performance in this year’s elections in the region has improved, widening the gap between him and his main contender, President Akufo-Addo.
Analysis of the presidential results shows that Mr. Mahama’s performance, as compared to the 2016 election, has increased by about 4 percentage point while his main contender, president Akufo-Addo’s performance in the presidential election has declined by about 2 percentage point.
Out of the total valid votes of 518,712, Mr. Mahama polled 335, 502 votes representing 64.68 percent with president Akufo-Addo polling 170,340 votes which represent 32.84 percent.
But in 2016, the former president polled 272,260 votes which represent 60.34 percent as against president Akufo-Addo who polled 157,398 representing 34.88 percent.
Hence, Mr. Mahama’s 64.68 percent is an improvement from his 2016 performance of 60.34 percent while Nana Akufo-Addo’s 32.84 percent is a decline from his 2016 performance of 34.88 percent.
