The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has admonished its members against jubilating over their supposed victory in the 2020 General Elections.

Director of Elections of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah who claimed provisional results indicate a win for the party’s presidential candidate advised members of the party to refrain from celebrating their supposed victory and rather remain vigilant in order to ensure that the election is not rigged.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah, therefore, charged agents of the party to closely monitor the collation processes so as to secure the party’s “overwhelming victory”.

“Preliminary results tickling in show a very exciting outlook but our victory is not complete until the last ballot is counted and collated. I keep saying no premature celebration because the collation is still ongoing and therefore, we charged all our counting and polling agents to be vigilant and alert in the last hours of the counting in order to secure and protect our overwhelming victory that is coming,” he said in the amidst of cheers from jubilant party’s supporters.

He also called on all supporters of the NDC “to move to the various collation centers to ensure that the will and mandate of the people is not stolen.”

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah made these remarks at a press briefing where he claimed that the party has flipped 36 parliamentary seats some of which are in strongholds of the governing NPP.

He said their claim of victory is based on the snatching of the said seats from the NPP.

“Preliminary results tickling in show a very exciting outlook but victory is not complete until the last ballot is counted and collated. These preliminary results can be seen from the provisional parliamentary results so far and some significance seats that we have swapped for the first time in the history of the 4th Republic since 1992. If you put them together, they are 36 seats that have been flipped and 99 percent of these are not skirt and blouse so reflect in the presidential,” he claimed.

The collations of results of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections is ongoing with the declaration of some few constituencies.

The election which was conducted on Monday, December 7,2020 has been generally smooth.

Ghana is seeking to elect a president and legislators to steer the affairs of the country for the next four years in an election described as crucial for the leading parties.

The main contenders in the presidential election are president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the governing NPP who is seeking a second term in office and John Dramani Mahama of the opposition NDC who is seeking a return to the seat of government after he was defeated in the last election.
