ELVIS AFRIYIE ANKRAH- NDC DIRECTOR OF ELECTIONS

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has won 36 parliamentary seats which are currently being held by the governing New Patriotic Party.

Speaking at a press briefing, Director of Elections of the party, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said preliminary results show that the party snatched about 36 seats from the NPP including seats in strongholds of the governing party.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah claimed they have also won the presidential election in many of these Constituencies. This, he said, is an indication that the party’s presidential candidate will emerge victorious after all ballots are counted.

He, however, urged members of the party to remain vigilant and not jubilate prematurely since the ballots are still being collated.

“Preliminary results tickling in show a very exciting outlook but victory is not complete until the last ballot is counted and collated. These preliminary results can be seen from the provisional parliamentary results so far and some significance seats that we have swapped for the first time in the history of the 4th Republic since 1992. If you put them together, they are 36 seats that have been flipped and 99 percent of these are not skirt and blouse so reflect in the presidential,” he said.

He added “so if we flipped all these (seats), nobody should tell you where we are heading towards. It is very clear. However, as I keep saying no premature celebration because the collation is still ongoing.”

While urging members of the party to head to the collation centers, NDC’s Director of Elections charged the party’s agents at the various collation centers to be vigilant and alert so as to protect the outcome of the election from being rigged.

“we charged all our counting and polling agents to be vigilant and alert in the last hours of the counting in order to secure and protect our overwhelming victory that is coming. We charge our party’s members to move to the various collation centers to ensure that the will and mandate of the people is not stolen,” he added.

However, the Electoral Commission is yet to announce results from many of these Constituencies.
