General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has disclosed that president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is taking a rest on the orders of the party.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Mr. John Boadu said the party asked its presidential candidate to relax whiles they work to ensure his victory in the presidential election.
The General Secretary said the party has everything under control and they are confident of victory hence, the order to its presidential candidate.
“We’ve asked him to relax. We, the New Patriotic Party are in control. We are taking him to victory so he is relaxing. You’ve seen, he went to Kyebi this morning to vote and he was so impressed about the system,” he stated.
While commending the Electoral Commission, Mr. Boadu indicated that the NPP will complete coalition of results from all 275 Constituencies within 8 hours.
He disclosed that the party has built an improved system that will deliver results in time.
“For us, our internal coalition systems is such that within 8 hours, we will get our results but we will still wait for the EC to declare the results. We have put in place a far improved system. We did a dry run like a mock exam and within 2 hours, about 60 percent of our polling stations had finished collating their results. This time, we are not only looking at the results, we are looking at getting pink sheets so when we show the results, we are showing the pink sheets as well,” he added.
Ghana is seeking to elect a president and legislators to steer the affairs of the country for the next four years in an election political watcher say is crucial for the two main political parties.
The main contenders in the presidential election are president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the governing NPP who is seeking a second term in office and John Dramani Mahama of the opposition NDC who is seeking a return to the seat of government after he was defeated in the last election.
The polls which commenced at 7:00am and ended at 5:00 pm have generally been described as smooth.
However, there are few reported incidents of delays in the electoral process and electoral malfeasances in some Constituencies.
In the Awutu Senya West Constituency, one person has been allegedly shot dead for attempting to snatch a ballot box.
