Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed satisfaction with the voting process in the ongoing General Elections.

Addressing the media after casting his vote at the Kperiga D/A School polling station in the Walewale Constituency of the North East Region, Dr. Bawumia indicated his satisfaction with the voting process and the strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.

He urged electorates to turn up at their various polling centers to exercise their civic responsibility as citizens of the country

Touting the country’s image internationally, the vice president said Ghana has earned a reputation globally as a peaceful nation and therefore called on voters to exercise their franchise in peace in order not mar the country’s global reputation.

“I have just exercised my constitutional duty in casting my vote. I want to encourage everybody to come out and vote. As you can see, I came here, went through all the Covid-19 protocols and it has gone very smoothly and everybody should be patient and carry out this most important constitutional duty,” he told the media.

He added “we want to vote peacefully. This is the most peaceful country in West Africa. At the end of this election, we want to maintain that reputation as the most peaceful country in West Africa. We want to exercise this franchise in peace and there should be no issue of disruption.”

Voting is currently ongoing across the 275 constitution of Ghana in an elections political watcher described as crucial for the leading political parties, the governing NPP and the opposition NDC.

The country is seeking to elect a president and legislators to steer the affairs of the country for the next four years.

The main contenders in the presidential election are president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the governing NPP who is seeking a second term in office and John Dramani Mahama of the opposition NDC who is seeking a return to the seat of government after he was defeated in the last election.

Except in few voting centers where the start of the exercise was delayed as result of late arrival of electoral materials, the process has generally been smooth.
