JEAN MENSAH- EC CHAIRPERSON

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa has explained why some security officials and journalists have not had their names captured as part of those to vote ON Tuesday, December 1, 2020 during the special voting exercise.

Some 109,000 voters, including the media and members of the various security agencies, are expected to cast their ballot tomorrow.

There have been concerns that many voters who are eligible for the Special Voting process cannot vote because their names were omitted from the special voting register though they submitted the names earlier.

But addressing a press conference on Monday November 30, 2020 Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa urged the public to disregard pronouncements that the EC deliberately prevented journalists and security officers from taking part in the exercise.

“As such only the names in the soft copy were reflected in the special voting list. The Commission regrets this and wishes to assure the GJA and NMC and Journalists in general of our support to their efforts. To mitigate this, the Commission has instructed its field officials to give preferential treatment to media personnel who possess the accreditation cards of the Electoral Commission,” Madam Jean Mensa said.

She assured that all was set for the special voting scheduled for Tuesday, December 1 2020.

Meanwhile, the exercise is expected to take place in 16 centers across the Upper East Region with five thousand nine hundred and fifty expected to take part in the exercise.
