The opposition National Democratic Congress says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the governing New Patriotic Party are beginning to distance themselves from discussions on corruption.

This, the party believes is a result of the failure of the integrity test of President Nana Addo and his government.

“President Akufo-Addo’s ‘incorruptibility’ tag is now a thing of ridicule, trampled upon with utter disdain by all fair-minded Ghanaians who have observed events unfold over the past four years. Indeed, he and his henchmen no longer entertain any discussion whatsoever on corruption,” Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer of the NDC said at a press conference on Thursday.

The NDC noted that a comparison between President Nana Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama on matters of corruption, is key in the lead up to the 2020 election. A comparison they say falls in favour of the former President.

“Research has shown that top of the essential ingredients in the fight against corruption is the political will to prosecute corrupt government officials. Of course, there are other relevant requirements such as clear values backed by relevant legislation, strong institutions and national anti-corruption strategy among others, but political will remains the single most important sine quo non in the fight against corruption, without which any such fight will be an exercise in futility,” Sammy Gyamfi added.

The opposition National Democratic Congress further outlined ten corruption scandals it said have occurred under the Nana Addo administration which includes PDS, the BOST contaminated fuel, Ameri deal amongst others.
