Social Justice Movement, an advocacy group has admonished Ghanaians to vote for smaller parties in the 2020 December elections in order to cause a runoff in the keenly contested presidential polls.
Convener of the group, Nyeya Yen argued that such a move will send a signal to the New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress about how unhappy Ghnanains are with them.
According to social justice advocate, the two major political parties have failed in addressing the development needs of the people. He noted that a voting pattern that will push the elections into a runoff will demonstrate the level of dissatisfaction against the major parties.
Though convinced that one of the two parties will win in the elections, Mr. Yen said Ghanaians who are dissatisfied with both the NDC and NPP should vote for the smaller parties to push the elections into a run.
“A lot of people you meet on the street will tell you they will not go out and vote. But I will say that people who are dissatisfied with the NDC and NPP should vote for the smaller parties. If we get enough numbers, we can force the presidential election to a second round so that the NDC and NPP will respect us. So instead of sitting down and saying we wouldn’t vote, go and cast your vote for the PNC, CPP or PPP or anybody apart from NDC and NPP and if we can get a significant number we can push the elections to a second round,” he noted.
He said both parties have mismanaged the country’s resources adding that voting against them will be a wake-up call.
“Voting against them means Ghanaians are now awake. You may say that more money would be involved but remember that Nana Addo won in 2016 with over one million votes but if he loses these one million votes, it draws a sense about corruption {like} PDS, Agyapa, all these bond that they do, can you imagine, what that is? After the elections, whether NPP or NDC, we are going to have problems because of the huge debt,” he added.
