Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern over alleged threats on the life of former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
The party at a Press Conference said it is perturbed and horrified by revelations by Mr. Amidu that his life has allegedly been threatened after he released the corruption risk assessment report of the Agyapa Mineral Royalties Agreement.
National Communication Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, who addressed the Press Conference served notice that Ghanaians will not sit aloof for the former Special Prosecutor to be assassinated as happened to Ahmed Suale of Tiger Eye PI, adding that president Akufo-Addo will be held responsible should anything happens to Mr. Amidu.
“The NDC has been alarmed and appalled by revelations by Martin Amidu about threats of robbery, arson and death on his life following the release of his corruption risk assessment report on the Agyapa scam. Should anything happen to him, President Akufo-Addo will be held responsible. Ghanaians will not sit aloof for President Akufo-Addo and his wicked and treacherous hirelings in government to take the life of Mr. Martin Amidu as they did to the late Ahmed Suale,” he said.
This comes on the back of an interview Mr. Amidu granted in which he disclosed that he has allegedly received threats of arson, burglary and assassination on his life after he released the corruption risk assessment report which made findings of suspected acts of corruption against Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta and other government officials.
Mr. Amidu in the interview threatened to make damning revelations against the government should members of the NPP and its government continue to attack him.
Reacting to the development, the NDC bemoaned what it termed as harassment of corruption crusaders by the Akufo-Addo government stating that the allegation by Mr. Amidu indicates the president and his government’s determination to intimidate people who dare to speak against corruption under their watch.
While describing as unprecedented alleged suppressing of dissenting views and intimidation of corruption crusaders, the party called on Ghanaians to offer prayers and protection in order to safeguard Mr. Amidu against the alleged threats on his life.
“Never in the history of this country have we witnessed this level of terror and cruelty being unleashed on anti-corruption crusaders who deserve to be honored and celebrated for their good works.
Martin Amidu at this point needs our collective prayer and protection against the vile threats directed at his life, since according to him, the sudden demise of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has removed the only protection enjoyed from such threats and wicked plans,” the party’s Communication Officer stated.
