Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC),Former President John Mahama has enjoined Ghanaians to uphold and defend the values of the Fourth Republic so as to honour the memory of President Jerry John Rawlings.

Former President Mahama noted that the late Rawlings held the values of the Fourth Republic – peace, democracy, probity and accountability, respect for human rights, freedom of the press, tolerance and inclusion – so dear and now is the time for Ghanaians to defend and uphold them as a sacred duty.

“Now, more than ever, we have a sacred duty to uphold and defend the values of the 4th Republic that President Rawlings held so dear – peace, democracy, probity and accountability, respect for human rights, freedom of the press, tolerance and inclusion.

In doing this, we honour the man who brought us the gift of a free and democratic society,” he stated.

Yesterday, former President Mahama had to suspend in campaign in the Ashanti Region and return to Accra following the demise of former President Rawlings.

He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness. His death has sent shockwaves throughout the country.

President Akufo-Addo has declared seven days of national mourning beginning today, Friday, November 13, 2020.
