Member of Parliament for New Juabeng South Constituency, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah has slammed Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu over the corruption risk assessment conducted by the Special Prosecutor into the Agyapa Royalties Mineral Agreement.

Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah who doubles as the Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee asserted that Martin Amidu’s corruption risk assessment report on the agreement in which he made remarks about former president Mahama’s involvement in the Airbus scandal is ridiculous hence, he should not be taken seriously.

In his opinion, it was unnecessary for the Special Prosecutor to include the Airline corruption allegation issue in the report since there is no connection between corruption risk assessment on the Agyapa Royalties Agreement and his investigation into the Airbus scandal.

Describing the risk assessment report as horrible and a disservice to the country, the NPP MP argued that Mr. Amidu’s claim that he is unable to interrogate former president Mahama though he claimed in the report that he has identified Mr. Mahama as one of the government officials involved in the alleged Airbus bribery has no legal basis and presents him as non-serious lawyer.

“He is doing a disservice to the country. So you are doing a corruption risk assessment (and) in the end, he is talking about who is Government Official 1. Like seriously? This is a corruption risk assessment on the Agyapa transaction. Read the report and now, he is talking about Airbus? So why didn’t he give us an update on all the work he is doing? I think he hasn’t helped himself by putting out this horrible piece of work together,” he said.

“Have you ever heard any serious lawyer in this country say that somebody will not be prosecuted because he is a presidential candidate? Is this law? That John Mahama is GO1 but because he is a presidential candidate, he will not interrogate him. I say the man should not be taken seriously. He has done a sloppy job,” he concluded.

In the corruption risk assessment report released by the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Amidu stated that his assessment established reasonable suspicion of bid-rigging and corruption activity in the selection process of the deal.

Excerpts of the report also made remarks on Mr. Amidu’s investigation into the Airbus bribery allegation. The Special Prosecutor disclosed in the report that former president Mahama has been identified as the elected government official who is labeled in the Airline bribery case as Government Official One (GO1).

But the MP for New Juabeng South who launched a scathing attack on the Special Prosecutor said Mr. Amidu’s investigation into the matter and his report of the investigation is conjectured and cannot pass any legal test.

“All of these are conjectures, hypothetic. They don’t go anywhere. They won’t stand in any court of law. No where,” he fumed.
