KOFI AMOABENG

Former Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of defunct UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng has said that the collapse of his bank has satisfied the wishes of people who were waiting for him to fall.

Mr Amoabeng, who made this known in an interview from with journalist Kyenkyenhene Boateng, explained that as people chart their paths in life, there are always envious, evil-minded people wishing for them to fail.

“As you are charting your course, I think people are waiting to see you fall down. And the sort of envy… evil thoughts. So the way things turned out, it satisfied the wishes of a lot of people,” he said.

Mr Amoabeng admitted that while managing UT Bank, some mistakes were made by them just as every outfit makes. He stressed that as humans, we are all fallible.

“In managing any outfit, you can make mistakes we are all fallible. Certainly we made some mistakes,” he conceded.

In August 2017, the Bank of Ghana  declared UT Bank and Capital Bank insolvent after the two banks allegedly failed to meet the minimum capital requirement for banks at the time.

In putting the banks into receivership, the Bank of Ghana said that “despite repeated agreements between the Bank of Ghana and UT Bank and Capital Bank to implement an action plan to address these significant shortfalls, the owners and managers of UT Bank and Capital Bank were unable to increase the capital of the banks to address the insolvency.”
