Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako, says he is confident that President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will be retained as the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2020 General Elections.
Speaking on current affairs show, Kokrooko, on Accra-based Peace FM, the veteran journalist expressed his strong desire of having President Akufo-Addo re-elected, disclosing that he would contribute in ways that he can to ensure the President’s re-election in the upcoming elections.
Mr. Baako said this while speaking on the revelation by the Ghana Police Service that it has identified a number of flash points across the country which are likely to record election-related violence.
“The EC will declare the winner for both parliamentary and presidential. [For] presidential, when I look at the crystal ball, and I’m not a pollster but it is a wish, an inclination and a strong desire and I will ensure that I contribute the little I can to make sure that desire materialises. When I look at the crystal ball, Akufo-Addo will be retained,” he stated.
While urging the police to be bold and firm in dealing with political actors who engage in or instigate electoral-related violence, he was hopeful of a peaceful election in December with the NPP’s presidential candidate emerging as winner of the presidential election.
Mr. Baako also disclosed that he is lending a help hand to a number of parliamentary candidates of his party, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) stating that the Nkrumahist party can be rebuilt through representation in the National Assembly hence, his decision.
He described as unfortunate the dwindling electoral fortunes of the CPP:
“When it comes to the Parliamentary, I have a little support for my party (CPP). I have adopted about 20 Constituencies that I’m going to help them with money, T-shirts and so many things which I have been doing over the years. That is what I can do.
My view is that we should have representatives in parliament in a multi-party democracy. Even if you have 5 seats, you have a voice and then use parliament to rebuild that great political tradition. Indeed, the greatest of all the political traditions in this country.
It is unfortunate we are marginalized but we know the reasons for the marginalization,” he said.
