The Member of Parliament(MP) for the Bongo Constituency, Edward Bawa, has warned that persons who intend to serve as proxy voters for students will not be safe in his constituency.

He alleged that members of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) have been to training institutions, and have encouraged students to transfer their votes to constituencies in the Upper East with the assurance that the students do not need to be physically present to vote on election day.

He claimed that the students were given monetary inducement to the tune of GHC 200 each to transfer their votes to their preferred constituencies in region.

Mr Bawa, who is seeking reelection, has cautioned that proxies for the students are not safe in his constituency.

“NPP went into our training institutions and encouraged pple to transfer their votes to various constituencies in upper east. They were given GH 200.

These students have been told that they don’t need to appear and vote on Dec 7. Let me send a warning to persons who would be used as proxies for such students. Ur safety in Bongo can’t be guaranteed,” he stated on social media.

His statement has been met with mixed reactions on social media. Some people have argued that such threats from a sitting MP are unbecoming while others agree with him.
