Deputy Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the National Youth Authority(NYA), Akosua Manu, has come to the defence of the three daughters of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and their My Sister’s Keepers Foundation, saying that the work of the foundation is for the good of others, especially the vulnerable and less-privileged in the country.
Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by its National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, last week, launched a ‘blistering attack’ on the daughters of the President – Edwina, Valerie and Gyankroma – and their My Sister’s Keepers Foundation, accusing them of exploiting the influence of their father to take money from state institutions without accounting for how they expend it.
But Ms Akosua Manu( Kozie Ozie Manu) has asserted that the ladies are following in the footsteps of their father’s devotion to duty and service to make sure they do good for others, especially the vulnerable.
““With great power, comes great responsibility”: A message that is very often associated with Spiderman, the great American fictional superhero, as an iconic life motto handed over to him by his grandfather. Yet this message has become even more inspirational in public service today.
It’s simple: that if you have the ability to do something, make sure that you do it for the good of others – the people. This has been the core motivation behind the introduction of the many good things we witness in our country today,” he said in a statement on the matter.
Ms Manu, an eloquent communicator for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), stressed that relations of the President are emulating his good examples and doing the best they can for the country.
“Indeed, when Nana Akufo-Addo won the 2016 election by a large margin, the silent but loud marching orders were that he and everyone associated with him had to follow the spirit of this message and get to work. One can say without a doubt that this has been the most hardworking presidency we have seen.
From the President himself to his Vice, the First Lady and the Second Lady, each one of these patriotic individuals has made a huge impact on our national life with significant achievements that we can point to,” she noted.
She pointed out that the daughters of the President through the My Sister’s Keepers Foundation have kept faith with making life better for the vulnerable, especially autistic children in the country.
“The daughters of the President, having committed themselves to providing support to autistic children in Ghana, have through their numerous support and awareness programs, exposed many to the learning difficulties faced by autistic children, and the many realities of autism in general.
‘My Sister’s Keeper Foundation’, founded by the three daughters of the President has delivered on a promise the foundation made to the Proprietress of the Autistic Center after a visit to the facility,” she stated.
Meanwhile supporters of the NPP and NDC continue to debate the propriety of the Foundation. While the NDC maintains that the three daughters are unduly exploiting the influence of the President, the NPP insists that the foundation uses funds raised for the good of society, especially the underprivileged.
