A Cape Coast Circuit Court Judge, Mrs Dorinda Arthur Smith, has has ‘cursed’ a 60-year-old convict with death in prison after she found him guilty of defiling a two-year-old and sentenced him to a 21-year imprisonment term in hard labour.

Mr Kofi Appiah lured his two-year-old granddaughter into his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, according to a GNA report.

Mrs Arthur Smith found it vicious that Mr Appiah could not spare such a tender child but went ahead to abuse her in such a horrendous manner. She remarked after the sentencing that she wished the merciless pedophile die in prison.

A seemingly remorseful Kofi Appiah, who is a carpenter by training, had pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Augustina Koomson, the baby’s mother, a resident of Benti Esarem in Moree, Central Region, on October 16 found out that Mr Appiah had sexually abused her little daughter from the baby’s aunt who had rescued the crying child from Mr Appiah’s room. A complaint was lodged at the Moree Police Station, leading to the conviction.

Further Details according to the prosecution

On the day of the crime, October 16, 2020, Mr Appiah playfully led the two-year-old child, who had been playing with other kids, into his room. It was an evening.

Ms Koomson searched frantically for her daughter to no avail. She then went to her daughter’s aunt’s abode to enquire about her daughter. There she found her daughter with her aunt.

To her shock, her aunt, revealed that she had just whisked the child from the grips of old Mr Appiah who had been having sexual intercourse with the crying child in his room next door.

A report was lodged at the police station and the next day, Mr Appiah was arrested and arraigned before the the Cape Coast Circuit Court.
