Twelve presidential candidates have been cleared by the Electoral Commission of Ghana(EC) to contest in the upcoming presidential election this December.
The twelve, according to the Chairperson of the EC, are: Alfred Walker; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo;Christian Kwabena Andrews;Bridgette Dzobegnuku; John Dramani Mahama;Akua Donkor; and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
The rest are:Hassan Ayariga;Ivor Greenstreet;
10. Henry Herbert Lartey;Kofi Akpaloo and
David Apesera.
Five others who have been found by the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) of the Ghana Police Service to have forged signatures of voters to endorse their nomination forms have been duly disqualified by the EC.
They include: Kofi Koranteng; Marricke Kofi Gane; Akwasi Odike; Kwesi Busumburu; and
Agyenim Boateng.
According to the EC, the disqualified aspirants had some form of dialogue with the EC and had prior knowledge of their disqualification.
While some of the disqualified aspirants are yet to comment on their disqualification, Akwasi Odike has accused the the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) of orchestrating his disqualification because of his opposition to them.
