A Catholic Priest in the Upper East has told President Akufo-Addo that he owes the people of region four cows. Monseigneur Father Roger Aboteyuure said the debt of four cows is to be paid by President Akufo-Addo as bride price for his wife and First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
Speaking at a Durbar of Chiefs in Nangodi, capital of the Nabdam District Wednesday, October 7, 2020 during a two-day tour of the Upper East by the President, the distinguished servant of God explained to the President that his wife, the beautiful Rebecca, had once stayed in Bolgatanga with her parents when she was still young, and attended the Catholic Church for worship. He added that she became a favorite of his due to her affable nature.
“I have been longing to meet you, Mr President, and demand that you pay us our four cows for marrying our daughter, whom we trained and nurtured here in our region. But anytime I tell Anthony (Upper East NPP Chairman) about it, be ‘bribes’ me with wine to ‘cool’ down my anger.
As custom demands here, when you marry a daughter from here, you are obliged to pay her ‘dowry’ which, Mr President, is four big cows,” he joked.
Until this public confirmation, it had been widely speculated in the Upper East Region that First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo had moved up north with her family and had her junior high School and part of her Senior School education in Bolgatanga.
Rev. Father Aboteyuure, who took time to chronicle the life of the First Lady when she was in Bolgatanga, also assured the President of his vote at the 2020 elections because he has a lot of admiration for the First Lady.
“ I want to also assure you that your one vote is secured from me.”
“Mr President, there is also this woman who was the cook at Rebecca’s house. She too and her family of eight have told me to assure you of their votes. So you have ten secured votes from us. But remember to bring our cows” he added.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo, assured the Priest of extending his regards to the First Lady and pledged to honor the four-cow bride price to the people of the Upper East Region.
