Vice Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has stated that Ghanaians are eager to return the NDC to power after experiencing the governance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nearly four years.
Prof Opoku Agyemang noted that her interactions with Ghanaians show clearly that the NPP has failed to deliver on their promises and the people are yearning to have the NDC back.
She explained that after the NDC lost power, many were expecting the NPP to be much better than the NDC but after sometime, people who had championed the cause against the NDC “were running back. The same people who voted against us.”
Speaking on CitiTV’s Point of View, October 12, 2020, the NDC has not only performed much better than the NPP when it was in power, it presents a much superior manifesto for this year’s elections than the NPP, stressing that the NDC manifesto, the People’s Manifesto, gives Ghanaians reason to vote for the party come December.
“It[ the manifesto] is a message of hope in the sense that what they are asking that which is possible. We work to achieve…Ghanaians have every reason to vote for the NDC,” she said.
Prof Opoku Agyemang is the first female to be running mate for a political party that has a clear chance of winning power or has won power before. Her selection this year has been widely praise as a step towards the empowerment of women towards gender equality. She served as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast before serving as Minister of Education in under former President John Mahama.
