National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has successfully filed his nomination forms to contest the Bolgatanga Central parliamentary seat for the second time. Without any drama or delay, his nominations forms were accepted by the Bolgatanga Municipal office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
Speaking to the media after successfully filing the forms, Mr Adongo accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of abusing COVID-19 funds so as to curry electoral favour, saying that notwithstanding such abuse of incumbency, the NPP cannot convince Ghanaians in order to win a second term for President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“No amount of money and abuse of the COVID-19 money given to our people will give Akufo-Addo mandate to rule again. We want to assure the people of Bolga that if anybody gives you money two months to the election, it is free money and NDC has no business looking for that money,” he said. He further said that comparing the record of President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama, John Mahama performed better and therefore deserves to win the upcoming 2020.
He explained that the commissioning of streetlights by the President yesterday shows that President Akufo Addo has not done anything significant for the people of Bolgatanga.
“And that December 7 the people of Ghana have tasted the NPP under Akufo-Addo. We have tasted John Dramani Mahama and we know that we’re better than streetlights. And that the people of Bolgatanga Central after three and half years now have to parade the streets just for him to commission a streetlight for the people of Ghana and the traffic ligjt. We are better than that!” He added.
He warned that voting for President Akufo-Addo again means he will come back in 2024 to commission zebra crossings and speed ramps.
“At this time in 2016, John Mahama was called the Commissioner General because he was commissioning big projects that saved the lives of people. I know that if you give Akufo-Addo another four years, what he will come here to do is to commission zebra crossing and speed ramps. Are you going to give him four more years to commission zebra crossing and speed ramps?” He quizzed.
Among others, he accused the President of diverting funds secured under the NDC for earmarked projects to do his projects such as the one village one dam and planting for food and jobs.
“I want to tell Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that our $20 million that John Mahama got for us to rehabilitate the Vea Dam that he used to do his one village one dam and he used to do his planting for food and jobs, we will require that money back to rehabilitate our dam,” he revealed.
The Bolgatanga Central Constituency is considered a stronghold of the NDC. But the People’s National Convention (PNC) has won the seat twice with David Apasera( from 2000 to 2008). This year’s election is a straight fight between Isaac Adongo of the NDC and Rex Asanga of the governing NPP.
