President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will begin his two-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region today. Late last night, hundreds of supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) welcomed him into the region.
The President in the company of high-ranking government officials will begin today’s tour with a visit to Namoalgu in the Talensi District, where the President will inspect an irrigation dam. The dam is under the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA).
He will later pay a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, the Tong-Ran, after which he will inspect ongoing works on the Bolgatanga-Bawku Road.
Yesterday, the opposition National Democratic Congress( NDC) alleged that contractors had been forced to work day and night on parts of the road purposely because of the President’s visit. But some NPP supporters denied the allegations, explaining that the contractors were working on their own schedule.
After the inspection, the President and his entourage will head to Kubore in the Bawku West District where a durbar will be held in his honour. He will return to Nangodi, capital of the Nabdam District and commission a warehouse under the one district one warehouse policy before attending a durbar to be held in honour by the chiefs of the area.
Before commissioning newly installed streetlights and traffic terminals in Bolgatanga, the President will meet with some party executives, MMDCEs and parliamentary candidates.
