GHANA LAW SCHOOL

The pass rate to the University of Ghana School of Law this year has seen a marked improvement over last year’s rate; out of 2720 persons who sat the examination, 1045 passed as against 128 out 1820 who passed last year.

Activists for expanded access to professional legal education in Ghana have praised the improvement as better that previous years but maintain that the goal is that every holder of a law degree should have access to professional legal education.

Relentless fighter for unfettered access to professional legal education for law degree holders, Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare ( Kwaku Asare) has said that the tremendous increase in the number of persons gaining access to professional legal education this year confirms his long-held assertion that last year’s pass rate was a bona fide scam and sham.

1045/2720 is significantly better than 128/1820 but significantly short of our goal to allow anyone with a law degree to be given the opportunity to take the qualifying certificate of examination.

“1045/2720 also proves that 128/1820 was a bona fide scam and sham.

Our job is not done until we totally and utterly dismantle the monopoly in the provision of the professional course, consistent with Article 25(2)…” He wrote on social media.

Meanwhile some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress ( NDC), a party which promised to expand access to professional legal education by accrediting law faculties to run the professional course, have argued that the  improved pass rate is due to their promise.
