The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini says the Mahama administration has begun on a wrong footing and will likely fail.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Salahu-Deen stated that although he does not wish the government fail, its policy direction and action since taking over power show that it is on a path to failure.

He pointed to the government’s failure to decisively tackle illegal mining as the National Democratic Congress and John Mahama had promised when they were opposition, the 2025 budget, which he said contains nothing substantial, the impending increment of utility tariffs and the incessant power outages as clear indications of the current administration’s inability to turn things around for the better.

“Looking at what this country has been through and what the NDC is currently putting in, we know they’re not going to go anywhere.”

“ The budget itself wasn’t inspirational. There was nothing new in the  budget. It’s a rehash of ideas, put them together, find some acronyms and some names, put together,  that is what all that budget was all about. And we know they’re going to fail. Galamsey is already even on the rise. Dunsor is also on the rise. PURC is increasing tariffs here and there,” he stated.

He said, although it is early days yet, the signs of failure are clear.

“That’s not my prayer. That’s not my prayer. But the events suggest so.”

Salahu-Deen made these remarks while dismissing calls for the replacement of the party’s 2024 flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Andrew Atariwine, former Deputy Regional Communication Director of the party in the Upper East Region argued, in an interview Dreamz FM, that Dr. Bawumia has been exhausted, having being at the forefront of leadership since 2008 and should be replaced.

But Salahu-Deen disagreed, counter arguing that the former flagbearer is the most marketed candidate and has a lot to offer in the governance of the country.

Predicting that the Mahama administration will fail, he said Dr. Bawumia will be the right person to reset the country on the path of progress.

“So looking at how they’ve started, I know they won’t go anywhere. And that is the more reason why we need Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead this country, to lead NPP. He is the saviour. When the time comes, I’ll come again and tell you why he’s a saviour.”
