Charles King Luu led the group to address a press conference, detailing their opposition against the nomination

Charles King Luu, leader of a group of  National Democratic Congress (NDC) members kicking  against the nomination of John Millim Naabwomya as District Chief Executive of Talensi, suggests the group could let go their concerns if the President’s nominee apologizes for his supposed misconduct.

“What he can do to bring development to the people is obviously to reach and come out openly within the party for all of us to know that ‘look, it’s your concerns that you have, I am not going to do that. I am not going to go that way. Of course, if there are issues that are already done, then I think I apologize to the NDC and Talensi in general. I hope that you don’t find me doing these things’. From there, we move as a family,” he stated in an interview on Dreamz FM.

At a press conference in the Talensi District, the group led by King Luu demanded John Millim’s nomination be withdrawn, citing his alleged association with the Tong-Ran, the paramount chief of the Talensi Traditional Area.

The group said the nominee is a “devoted” agent of the Tong-Ran, who has known ties with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and even served under the immediate past government of the party and thus, his appointment as DCE will put the district under the control and influence of the traditional ruler and for that matter, the NPP.

They also accused the nominee of being involved in land dispute and other legal tussles, falsely carrying himself as an elder of the Gbane skin, inciteful conduct and having the support of a chief convicted for contempt of court.

Further, they accused John Millim of campaigning for the Tong-Ran in the 2021 Council of State elections against a candidate the NDC had backed and not being in good terms with key party members and some traditional leaders in the area.

The group said although a national security assessment of John Millim found him not suitable for the position, the assessment report was shelved and the vetting processes manipulated in his favour.

They accused the Member of Parliament for the area Daniel Mahama of being complicit in rigging the vetting results and buying the support of those kicking against John Millim’s nomination.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, King Luu said the group had petitioned the vetting committee against the candidature of John Millim but their concerns were ignored.

While reiterating their position against the nomination, King Luu suggested they ready softened their position and could support the nomination if the nominee apologizes for his alleged misconduct and assure them of working in the interest of the NDC.

“We expect Mr. John Millim to meet the aggrieved youth of the NDC and demonstrate to them his commitment to changing from what he did in the past. If John Milliam was not aware of the magnitude of the actions and the iactions of himself at a certain time or a certain place, now, he is aware”.
