Some residents of Tamale who have lost their property as a result of devastating floods that hit their communities Sunday, October 4, 2020, have blamed the recurring problem on poor drainage systems as their seek to absolve themselves of claims that some of them have knowingly built on waterways.
Yesterday’s floods affected places known for floods as well as areas previously deemed flood-free. Residents say the rain that fell yesterday was about the heaviest rainfall they have witnessed in several years. The heavy rain fell unrelentingly for some 7 hours and stopped clean, flooding the communities and wreaking massive havoc.
Gumani Waterworks, Kukuo and Nyohini and parts of Sagnarigu have been hardest hit by the floods.
The floods brought down some houses and carried
Personal property such as electronic appliances, food and clothes and other valuables.
The affected victims are calling on the government and benevolent organizations to come to their aid as they continue to scoop water from their homes.
This is not the first time this year that floods have occurred in the region. In June, rains devastated parts of Sagnarigu leading to the desruction of houses and loss of household property.
