Alagumgube, a development group with its roots in Ghana, other parts of Africa, and Europe, has aided disaster-hit Anafobisi Primary A School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
The group intervened by donating marker boards, markers, exercise books, and pencils to the school to help them continue with academic activities while a permanent solution is being sought to deal with the challenges at the school.
On March 10, 2025, a heavy windstorm hit many parts of the Upper East Region. In Bongo, it wreaked havoc, destroying structures including classrooms at the Anafobisi Primary A, a school that was already battling an infrastructural deficit.
This has compelled the school authorities to move some of the learners to sit under a poorly constructed pavilion, and others under a baobab tree with the Upper Primary now occupying a church.
The relocation left the students without writing boards with the teachers virtually doing verbal teaching and occasionally allowing the children to take turns to write on the board instead of practicing with their books.
It is on this basis that Alagumgube immediately intervened after their attention was drawn to the plight of the children by providing the marker boards as an interim measure
In her brief remarks, Habiba Assurebuno Alhassan, the Interim African Secretary of Alagumgube, acknowledged how dire the situation is, thus the decision to intervene.
“Recently, this school was struck by a devastating rainstorm, leaving the classrooms in ruins and the students in a dire situation. Today, these young learners are forced to study under trees, without even the basic tools such as marker boards, to aid their education.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive, and resource-equipped environment. As an association, we cannot stand by and watch these children’s education be hindered. We are committed to doing everything within our power to support the rebuilding efforts and provide these students with the resources they need to succeed,” she stated.
She hopes that the government and its allied agencies and other organizations will intervene to permanently address the challenges.
“I am calling on all other groups, government, and individuals to contribute generously whether through donations, materials, or any form of assistance that can help restore a proper learning environment for these children. Your support will make a tangible difference in their lives and ensure that their right to education is protected. Let us come together as a community to ensure that Anaafobiisi Primary A School’s children can continue their education with the tools and hope they deserve.” She urged.

Speaking to Dreamz News, Gabriel Agambila Akakiire, the Founder of Alagumgube, indicated that he would engage other members and groups to explore ways to better assist the school given the severity of the destruction as he calls on various actors including the government to quickly intervene.
“We decided to intervene because we have seen big people come here and they haven’t done anything. So, we decided to get Maker boards, books, pencils and erasers. What I can tell the authorities is that we need people to come instantly and help these kids. We need roofing sheets and I think NADMO should be intervening in matters like this.”

The Headteacher of the School, Felicia Anamobire Anii, expressed gratitude to the group for the intervention.
