Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide has revealed that the number of police and military personnel deployed into the Volta Region in  the awake of alleged secessionist violence has been beefed up, adding that Kate-Krachi and Kpassa in the Oti Region have also seen deployments.

He made this known after a high-level inter-ministerial meeting with security agencies held yesterday in the Volta Region.

Mr Hadzide added that the security agencies are on the standby to avert further attacks in the regions, reiterating that Government will not negotiate with the secessionists but will rely on the security agencies to bring the situation under control.

Even though security and intelligence agencies have maintained that they are in control of the situation, Some Ghanaians have slammed them for failing to foil the attacks, but only rushing there to arrest ‘innocent’ people after the execution of the attacks.

But Mr Hadzide has defended the actions of the security architecture, saying that some 60 persons in total have been arrested, out of which 54 have been remanded.

On 25th September 2020, some persons alleged to be secessionists belonging to the Western Togoland Restoration Front launched clinical attacks in parts of the Volta Region, seizing vehicles and weapons from two police stations after overpowering the police; blocking roads among others. Days later, they attacked the STC Bus Terminal in Ho and set two buses alight.

The attacks have been widely condemned.
