The Electoral Commission of Ghana would conduct special voting on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 for security personnel and officers of the commission as well as media personnel who would work outside their jurisdiction of voting on the day of elections.
This is to enable the security personnel, the officials of the EC and media personnel who would be playing crucial roles in the conduct of the elections on December 7, to exercise their franchise without disrupting their duties on the day of the general elections.
In a statement dated October 2, 2020, the commission called on persons in the said categories to submit their Voter ID card details to the commission through its Director of I. T Projects at the headquarters of the EC by October 15, 2020 for the compilation of the Special voting list to enable them participate in the early voting.
“The special voting will take place on Tuesday, 1st December, 2020. Special voting refers to voters who as a result of their duties on Election Day are unable to vote at the polling stations where they registered on the day of Elections,” it said.
“The following categories of persons – Security Personnel, Election Officials and Media Personnel who will work outside their jurisdiction on Election Day – are therefore expected to submit their Voter ID card details to the Commission, through the Director, I.T Projects at the Headquarters of the Commission on or before Thursday, 15th October, 2020. This will enable the Commission to process their details to enable them participate in the early voting,” the statement added.
The compilation of the Special Voting List, the commission noted, is in accordance with Public Regulations, 2020 (C.I 127), Regulation 23.
However, the commission served notice that persons who submit their details after the deadline would not be included in the Special Voting List and would therefore not participate in the Special Voting on December 1.
“List received after the 15th October, 2020 will not be processed,” it admonished.
