President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Kwame Ntow Amoah to replace former Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency Edward Bawa as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

Edward Bawa was removed from the CEO position barely a month into his tenure at GNPC. His appointment as CEO of GNPC was announced on January 17, 2025, less than two week after the Mahama administration assumed office.

However, on February 13, 2025, he announced that he had been removed from the position and reassigned to the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) as Group CEO.

Kwame Ntow Amoah, whom Graphic Online describes as a  senior management officer of GNPC, has now taken over from Edward Bawa as acting CEO.

The new acting CEO is said to have held various leadership positions including being a Deputy CEO of GNPC and an advisor to the Minister of Energy and Director of Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy.

His achievements, according to Graphic Online, include securing significant investments, savings, and financing for both GNPC and the country.

Kwame Amoah is praised for an instrumental role he has said to have played in securing approximately US$7 billion  in investment for the Sankofa Oil and Gas Development Project  that is backed by US$700 million in partial risk guarantees from the World Bank.
