The Ghana Health Service in the Bolgatanga Municipality is looking to implement the Network of Practice in all 9 sub-municipalities after it commenced the implementation of the initiative at the Sumbrungu and Sherigu Health Centers.
This initiative is designed to link various facilities, individuals, and stakeholders in the health delivery chain to play their respective roles at the various levels from the highest to the lowest in a bid to improve access to quality care promptly.
As part of the Network of Practice, the Ghana Health Service looks to address challenges such as poor referral systems and inadequate provider-payment mechanisms.
The approach finds root in Primary Health Care Strategy and therefore centers on comprehensive and patient-centered care for common conditions.
Its goal is to enhance the capacity of health facilities to deliver quality services, reduce maternal and child mortality rates through targeted interventions, increase awareness and adoption of preventive health practices across communities, and encourage knowledge-sharing and cooperation among health professionals, traditional leaders, and community members.
The adoption of the Network of Practice serves as a major vehicle to help in the attainment of Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
Speaking to Dreamz News on the sidelines of the 2024 Annual Performance Review of the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate, the Municipal Health Director, Stephen Bordostsiah, explained that his outfit seeks to improve service provision through the network.
He said the Municipality has 9 sub-municipalities and they are looking forward to launching the network of practice across all 9 sub-municipalities.
“More of it is largely community engagement so we are leveraging on Network of Practice to see how we can bring in public and private facilities together to see how we can serve the community better and so far, we inaugurated the Sherigu and Sumbrungu East Networks. We are working hard to get more networks launched so that service provision will be enhanced within the Municipality.
We have nine (9) sub-municipalities when it comes to the operationalization of health services so every sub-municipality is supposed to have a network and that is what we intend to do.” He said.
