The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) says its intelligence indicates that the purported raid of the residence of former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta may have been staged.
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, social media was awash with reports of the ransacking of the former Finance Minister’s residence.
The raid was supposedly conducted by persons in military uniform.
At a press conference this noon to give update on investigations and prosecutions of suspected acts of corruption, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng said lawyers of the former Finance Minister had written to the OSP, seeking to find out if it was behind the raid.
Kissi Agyebeng denied the OSP’s involvement in the raid, claiming that intelligence available to the anti-graft agency suggest the raid was staged to cause disaffection for the OSP and derail investigation into Ken Ofori-Atta’s role in corruption and corruption related offences.
“Our intelligence points us to state that the purported raid at Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged or at best, an imposter action in an attempt to court disfavor for the OSP and to derail the investigation,” he stated.
According to the Special Prosecutor, the OSP had communicated to the former Finance Minister that he was a subject of investigation and that he should physically avail himself for interrogation following intelligence that he had left the country.
But Ken Ofori-Atta, he said, has deployed various antics to evade the interrogation including transmitting “generic letter” purported to be from a medical doctor abroad that stated that he was unwell and that his condition requires that he should stay in that country to be monitored.
“These occurrences and the OSP’s intelligence are very instructive as not to put premium on Ofori-Atta’s alleged imminent peril should he travel back to the jurisdiction,” Kissi Agyebeng emphasized.
He added, “The OSP is never deterred by such occurrences and the investigation will continue as by law prescribes”.
