The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIG BOSS) has assisted the school by renovating the kitchen and dining hall.
The former state of the kitchen did not reflect a place deserving enough to be referred to as the kitchen of a renowned institution like BIG BOSS. Authorities explained that the kitchen had deteriorated to the point that it was leaking and posed a danger to the quality of meals prepared by the kitchen staff.
It is on this basis that the school authority prevailed on the PTA to intervene.
Recognizing the poor state, the PTA had earlier renovated a dormitory block and again stepped in to renovate both the kitchen and dining hall at the cost of 174,000 cedis.
Speaking Wednesday during the handing-over ceremony, headmaster of BIG BOSS, Anthony Adimazoya, described the state of the kitchen and dining hall before the renovation as deplorable and not befitting of a place meant to prepare decent meals for the students.
The situation he said gave him sleepless nights as he was concerned about facing sanctions from regulatory bodies like the Food and Drugs Authority given the previous state of the kitchen and dining hall.
He expressed gratitude to the PTA of the school for the commitment to transforming the school.
Mr. Adimazoya further disclosed that the PTA has expressed its readiness to support the school to renovate the school’s science laboratory.
“I brought them here, we went to the kitchen side and it was so deplorable, so dirty, and if you’re very conscious of dirt, if they prepare meals at that place for you to eat. If you don’t take time, you will lose your appetite. I appealed to them because our foodstuff was there and the roof was leaking. Whenever it rains, water drops on the foodstuffs. I was afraid of the FDA inspecting our facility so courtesy of your parents, they worked on the kitchen and dining to make very decent for us. I want to applaud the PTA chairman and parents for your support.” Mr. Adimazoya stressed.
Speaking to the Media, the PTA chairman of BIG BOSS, Leonard Anafu, explained that the association considered the project as one that required urgent attention hence the decision to fast-track the rehabilitation, which commenced in November 2024.
While expressing their readiness to take up more projects, Mr. Anafu said that it hinged on the willingness of parents to pay the PTA contributions promptly.
“We have been meeting and the head told us about the kitchen and the dining hall. It was terrible and we decided to renovate the kitchen and the dining hall because we saw that it was also in a bad state.” He said.
Representing the Talensi District Directorate of Education, Korah Maurice, urged students of the school to make judicious use of the facilities available, adding there is a need for stakeholders to support in improving conditions in various schools given the enormous pressure on amenities due to the rise in population.
