Upper East Regional Minister-Designate Donatus Akamugri Atanga is concerned about the road network in the region.
Responding to questions at his vetting for the position by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, the Regional Minister-Designate observed that the region has one of the poorest road networks in the country.
Akamugri made this observation in response to a question by the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency Patrick Yaw Boamah, who enquired to know if the nominee had any plan in store to fix roads in the region particular the road from Zorkor in the Bongo District to neigbouring Burkina Faso.
Akamugri, in his response, said he was concerned about the deplorable state of roads in the extreme eastern north of the country and that he will liaise with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to fix the situation if he is approved for the position.
“In terms of road network, Upper East can be classified as the region that has no good roads and that is inclusive of Zorko,” he stated.
“So when I am given the nod, what I can do is to laisse with Minister for Roads and Transport to ensure that the first share of Upper East is given to us and we will have to come up with the roads that need to be tarred and those that need to be gravelled so that they can work that for us”.
He also pledged to see to the construction of an airport in the region and the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam.
