Appointments Committee sitting to vet ministerial nominees

Parliament has restricted physical access to the sittings of the Appointments Committee.

The Committee is currently vetting ministerial nominees submitted to the House by President John Dramani Mahama.

The vetting, which commenced on January 13, 2025, has roused public interest with many turning up in Parliament to witness the proceedings, the Parliamentary Service noted in a statement.

“Parliament puts premium on the security and safety of Members, staff and the general public,” the statement said.

It added, “in order to ensure the security and safety of Members, staff and the general public, as well as enable the smooth operation of the Appointments Committee, Parliament has decided to limit physical access to the venue of proceedings”.

It said only invited persons or those with accreditation will now be allowed access to the Committee room and the precincts of Parliament.

It is, therefore, urging those without accreditation or invitation to watch the sittings being broadcast on TV or other virtual channels.

“Parliament has granted access to a number of Media Houses to broadcast live and therefore, encourages the public to avail themselves of that opportunity to witness the proceedings of the Appointments Committee.”
