The National Democratic Congress in the Upper East Region has welcomed reports of the nomination of the Regional Secretary Donatus Atanga Akamugri by President John Dramani Mahama as Regional Minister-designate.
In a statement dated January 14, 2025 and signed by the Regional Communications Officer Abdallah Jonathan Salifu, the Regional Executive Committee of the NDC congratulated Akamugri, “on his nomination as Upper East Regional Minister-Designate”, stating “This recognition highlights his dedication, loyalty, and exceptional leadership as the longest-serving Regional Secretary and National Executive Member of the NDC”.
It added, “We are confident his experience will drive progress in the region.”
The party’s leadership also expressed gratitude to the President for picking Akamugri for the position and assured of unity and a collective effort to drive the region’s progress under the new government.
“Our gratitude goes to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for entrusting him with this vital role. The region stands united, offering prayers for wisdom and success in this new chapter.”
The statement comes on the back of media reports that the President has submitted a list of 10 Regional Ministerial nominees to the Speaker for consideration.
Donatus Akamugri, who is long-serving executive of the NDC, is among the list of Regional Ministerial nominees that has reportedly been submitted to Parliament for vetting and possible approval.
However, the Presidency has yet to confirm or deny the reports.
