Newly-elected flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) David Apasera has revealed that he has given himself at least two weeks to launch the party’s manifesto for the 2020 general elections.

“I am giving myself at least two weeks from now for us to launch a manifesto. And we are going to meet with regions and then the constituency executives. We want them just to go round to the grassroots and get polling station executives fixed properly and then once we launch the manifesto, I am sure we are going to take off from there.

And I believe we have able bodied young men who are interested in this party, who have the conviction and the passion to carry this party forward. When that happens, it will be a kind of a spontaneous building of the party.” He revealed in an interview with Araba Koomson on the Joy News channel earlier today.

Mr Apasera said that in order to not get their parliamentary candidates disqualified, by the 9th of October, all of the candidates will have filed to contest.

He also stated that he was working to unite the rank and file of the party for victory, noting that the period in which the PNC appeared to be a proxy of another party is over.

Mr Apasera disclosed that the need to refocus the party and make it a viable alternative are things that propelled him to contest even though he had not dreamt of it.

Yesterday, Mr Apasera defeated Samson Asaki Awingobit and Rev Samuel Adjei-Debrah to win the flagbearership slot.

He served as member of Parliament for Bolgatanga from January 2001 and January 2009. He lost the 2008 parliamentary election to the NDC. From 2008 to 2015, he was the party’s National Treasurer.
