Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has vowed to support the Bawku Central Constituency New Patriotic Party(NPP) to defeat incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga in the upcoming parliamentary elections, accusing him of having failed to develop his constituency.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful was in the constituency Wednesday (30th September, 2020) in the company of other NPP bigwigs to rally support for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Gabiana Gbanwaa, who is considered by many as a formidable candidate capable of beating Mr Ayariga in the elections.
The Ablekuma West constituency MP enjoined the supporters to continue to work towards victory for the parliamentary candidate and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo so that much more development can be witnessed in the area.
She slammed Mr Ayariga for failing to transform the constituency after many years as Member of Parliament, noting that it is time for change.
The NPP parliamentary candidate Gabiana Gbanwaa competed fiercely with Mr Ayariga but lost in the 2016 elections. This year’s election, analyst say, is too close to call and the candidate with the right strategies will carry the day.
The Communications Minister arrived in the Upper East on Monday as part of her campaign activities to get the NPP retained in power come December 7, 2020.
The Constituency
The Bawku Central Constituency is a swing constituency; both the NPP and the NDC have taken turns to win the seat. The Late Hon. Hawa Yakubu won it twice for the NPP while the late Adamu Sakande won it once also for the NPP. Mr Ayariga has won the seat thrice.
