Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia has disclosed that government has successfully constructed 435 Dams in the northern part of the country under its One Village One Dam initiative.
According to him, the initiative is part of the three prong strategy government has adopted to boost the agricultural sector in the north.
Speaking on Asempa Fm Wednesday, the Vice President said “We have a three prong strategy for agriculture in northern Ghana. First is the construction of the One Village One Dam, second is the rehabilitation of the Tono Irrigation Dam and the third is the construction of the Pwalugu multipurpose Dam”.
He disclosed that work is still ongoing on other dams to make up for the total number of dams expected to be constructed.
“So far we have constructed 435 dams and it is still work in progress. We are still delivering. Just as been captured on our tracker, we have delivered and delivering. So we will gradually provide a lot of communities with these dams as we move on,” he added.
The Vice President expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of the policy which is under government’s agricultural sector support program.
