Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has congratulated the Republican party of the United States of America and President-elect Donald J. Trump on their victory in the just ended US elections.

The party said the Republicans and their candidate’s victory in the November 5 polls is “an emphatic endorsement of the vision and ideals of the Republican Party by the good people of the United States”, a statement signed by NPP General-Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said.

While also extending congratulatory message to the entire US “for chalking yet another significant milestone in its democratic credentials, it said it is hopeful that Ghanaians will replicate the election of an “elephant party” in the USA in Ghana.

According to the NPP, “It is no secret that the NPP has a long-standing close relationship with the Republic Party and shares a lot of things in common with the Republicans including the great Elephant symbol, political orientation and ideology, as we both belong to the global alliance of centre-right political parties, the International Democrat Union”.

The party stated that it is particularly excited that centre-right philosophies are increasingly being embraced across the globe.

Drawing parallel between the Republican candidate Donald Trump and its candidate for the upcoming elections Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party said, “It is our fervent hope that just like the United States, Ghana’s ‘elephant party’ will also emerge victorious in the December polls”.

It added, “This is so, particularly, because both President Trump and H.E. Dr. Bawumia share Bold Solutions for their respective countries”.

It said Dr. Bawumia, if elected, hopes to strengthen the ties between the two political parties and nations “for mutual benefits”.
