Parliamentary candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency Peter Akunlibe has pledged to empower young people in the area if he is elected Member of Parliament in the December 7 polls.
Peter Akunlibe, speaking in interview on Constituency Highlights, said he has dedicated his life to addressing the needs of people of the area and will leverage his position as MP to do more.
He stated that if elected he will ensure that schoolchildren, who have dropped out return to school and facilitate skills training for those, who have attained minimum education and are interested in learning a trade.
“I know there are school dropouts. I will take my time, go to the communities, get these brilliant boys to go back to school. Others too, they have their passes. But where is the finances for them to move forward? I will also look at that,” he stated.
“And others too, at the book level, it’s not okay. And they are roaming, they are idling. I will get them into groups, get these mechanics and the carpentry job for them”.
He is also particular about women empowerment and has thus, pledged to provide financial assistance to female traders as a way of boosting their businesses.
Peter Akunlibe is among 3 persons contesting the Bolgatanga Central seat in the December 7 polls.
The PNC, the party on which ticket Akunlibe is contesting, has won the seat twice – in 2000 and 2004.
Ahead of this year’s elections, however, political watchers say the PNC and its candidate do not stand a chance.
But Akunlibe disagreed. While acknowledging that his party has lost grounds in the constituency, he said his contribution to the development of the area and the failures of both the NDC and NPP put him in pole position to win the seat.
