DR. NICHOLAS NAANI-ZANGINA

Dr. Nicholas Naani-Zangina, a businessman and Member of the Communication team of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), has described as unpatriotic attempts to politicize calls for intensified efforts to combat illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’.

According to Dr. Zangina, the fight against ‘galamsey’ is one that requires collective and coordinated efforts to tackle.

Speaking Thursday on the State of Our Nation, a Flagship current affairs show on Dreamz FM, the Business Man noted that the government needs to step up efforts to deal with the menace.

Recent increased mining activities in forest reserves and on water bodies have left many concerned about the devastation caused to the forest areas and water bodies as the situation is negatively affecting water production levels.

The Ghana Water Company recently stated publicly that water production levels have significantly dropped from 70% to 40%, adding the country may soon import water.

Similarly, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana warned that the country may import water for the production of medication if illegal mining is not tackled.

It is on this score that Dr. Zangina is calling on Ghanaians to depoliticize the fight against ‘galamsey’.He noted that it is unpatriotic to make attempts to tag agitations and calls for action as politically motivated.

“I know the effects of these chemicals and to think these chemicals are being washed into water bodies that serve as a source of drinking water, a source of water for agriculture should leave us concerned. So, if you think that the calls are political, then you don’t know what you are about and I must say, politicizing the fight is unpatriotic. So, the agitations are only to draw attention to the serious level of devastation” He stated.

After disclosing that he has supported the party in the Garu Constituency with 500 T-shirts which comes after an earlier donation of laptops to the party’s regional secretariat, Dr. Zangina called on various individuals to get on board and support efforts to have the NDC win all 15 constituencies and the presidential election.

“I call on every philanthropist to donate to the NDC. Earlier today, I donated 500 T-shirts to my candidate, Dr. Thomas Anaba and I am urging all to get on board to help secure victory,” Dr. Naani-Zangina appealed.
