Former Upper East Regional Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration believes the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for Bongo, Diana Aburiya Asuure will make great inroads in the upcoming elections.
Prof. Avea said although “she will be beaten very thoroughly, I suspect she will make a lot of votes”.
This, the educationist said, is due to the complacency of his party.
He explained that because of the dominance of the NDC in the area, it has become complacent, failing to appreciate its grassroots, who have toiled for years to maintain its dominance, a situation that has left some disgruntled.
Again, he observed that the party has failed to step up its campaign activities in the constituency, leaving the campaign scene to their opponents.
As a result, he said sympathizers, who feel unappreciated or that it no more has a potent message, defect to particular the New Patriotic Party (NPP gradually closing the gap between the two leading political parties.
“It also because of our attitude we became so complacent and thought that everybody in the place, we are all NDC and that people don’t really go campaigning or actually remembering people who actually have worked in the past so people get angry and then they just find either the PNC or NPP in particular to join”.
The NDC’s big gun also diagnosed the party’s continuous loss of grounds to unhealthy jostling for power internally.
Prof. Avea Nsoh, who tried unsuccessfully to run for the position of a Member of Parliament on the NDC’s ticket, said this in Dreamz FM’s Constituency Highlights, a radio programme that seek to shed light on local issues and help voters make an informed choice especially in the parliamentary elections by putting a spotlight on the candidates and their policy ideas.
