Power supply to the Sakoti Clinic in the Nabdam District was cut after some faceless persons removed a fuse to the electricity supply system of the Clinic in what is believed to be an attempt to sabotage surgical operations being carried out by the Nabdam MP, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane.

The surgical operations form part of free healthcare services the MP provides for constituents biennially.

According to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party on which ticket Dr. Nawaane represents, the MP commenced the free medical outreach at the Sakoti Clinic on Sunday, September 22, 2024 with diagnostic services during which about 300 people were screened for various ailments.

The following day was then scheduled for surgical operations on those whose conditions require such procedure and facilitating the referral of others whose conditions the MP does not have the expertise to handle.

However, when he and his team returned on Monday, September 23, 2023, the clinic and its immediate surrounding were plunged into darkness though most parts of the area had power supply.

The NDC Constituency Communication Officer, who spoke in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM, said an inquiry from the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) indicated that the power distributor was oblivious of the outage.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed a fuse to the transformer supplying power to the area was deliberately removed, resulting in the power cut that briefly disrupt the scheduled medical procedures.

While indicating that the MP had to resort to an alternative source of power for the procedures, he alleged that the disruption in power supply was an attempt to sabotage the gesture by the MP.

The NDC Communication Officer, James Tenga condemned the alleged tampering of the transformer as callous and cold-heartedness, stating that, “there are three major things in life we should never, in our life, try to politicize them”.

“One of it is health. The two, the key one, is environment and sanitation. And the third one is standard of living. If you politicize these three things, then you should be expecting enormous consequences that will befall you”.

The party called on the public to “name and shame these faceless callous human beings”.
