Bernard Mornah was elected presidential candidate of PNC

Presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Anbataayela Mornah has been excluded from the list of candidates the Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared to contest the 2024 elections.

Bernard Mornah, known for his social activism, was among 24 candidates, who filed their nomination forms by the September 13 deadline seeking to contest for the office of president.

However, a statement dated September 20, 2024 and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, indicated that 13 candidates “have successfully gone through the nomination process and qualify to contest as candidates in the 2024 presidential election”.

This, it said, was after “the Commission instituted a thorough examination of the nomination forms submitted by the candidates to ensure conformity with requirements as set out in law”.

Consequently, 11 other candidates including Bernard Mornah have been disqualified from running for president in the upcoming elections.

The EC, however, did not indicate the grounds on which the 11 were disqualified from the presidential contest.

The list of those cleared to aspire for the presidency in the polls includes 4 independent and 9 political parties’ candidates.
