The 2020 presidential candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Brigitte Dzogbenuku is sceptical about the 24-hour economy policy proposals improving the economic situation in the country if it is implemented.
According to her, the proposal is a mere slogan and may not have any significant impact on the lives of Ghanaians.
“I think it’s just a slogan. I don’t think it will make a huge difference,” he stated.
She noted that for such a policy to be effectively implemented, the business environment must be secured and conducive.
However, the country currently does not have adequate security in place for business operations particularly in the night, she observes.
“You’re talking about 24 hour economy, can we talk about our security first? Can that be put in place and many other things – our transport, our fuel, streetlights – there are so many basic things that need to be put in place for this 24 hour economy to work,” she noted.
The politician believes the policy is likely to encounter myriad challenges just like the Free SHS if it is implemented in the current state of the country.
“So let’s not be fuelled with sloganeering. Free SHS, we heard a slogan and they implemented and look at where we are with it?”
She was speaking in an interview on JoyNews TV this morning on the back of the unveiling manifestos by the two main political parties and some independent candidates.
Of all the manifestos unveiled, the Great Transformational Plan by the Movement for Change led Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen appeals to Brigitte Dzogbenuku.
She is of the view that proposals contained in that campaign document addresses some of the critical issues besetting the country.
