Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to construct a “modern” stadium in the Upper East Regional capital if he is elected president.
Mr. Mahama observed that the region is endowed with talents in various sporting activities and thus, requires such a facility to nurture and realize the promising potentials.
“A modern sports stadium for Bolgatanga because in sports you can create jobs. We have a lot of talents here. We have the young Azuma Nelsons here”.
He added, “We have the young athletes here. We must have a modern stadium where they can practice and realize their full potential”.
Stressing the importance of a stadium in the region, the former leader said the facility will help young talents harness their potentials and create jobs for many others.
He stated that unlike the astroturfs constructed by the current administration, which, he believes, are below standards, the proposed sports facility will be an ultramodern one.
“And we are not talking about the 2×4 stadiums that they are building in some places. We are talking about a modern stadium with all the facilities. But before that can happen, we need to win an election.”
He also pledged to secure funds for the equipment of the newly constructed clinical block at the Upper East Regional Hospital.
He blamed the current administration for the non-completion of the project , assuring the people that he will see to its furnishing for use under a future Mahama government.
He further pledged to undertake other infrastructural projects including constructing the Bolga-Tamale Road, Bolga-Tumu Road and the Kulungu stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road.
Again, Mr. Mahama promised to improve agriculture and food security with the rehabilitation of the Vea Dam and the completion of the Tamni Dam.
The former president reiterated his resolve to hold the Akufo-Addo government to count for what, he said, is state capture and pervasive corruption in the last 8 years.
He said the president and his close associates have been illegitimately amassing wealth to the deterrent of many including members of the NPP.
As a result, some of these members of the governing party are urging him to win the elections and hold members of the current government to account.
Mr. Mahama believes the NPP government is pushing hard to have Dr. Bawumia elected so that its officials could escape accountable.
He, therefore, wants Ghanaians to kick them out of office.
